THE GARDEN 75

Recipe by Jonathan Stanyard of @thebittergringo

This festive drink elaborates on the classic gin cocktail, the French 75. I have swapped out the gin for a domestic pear brandy. Using this as a base is the perfect flavor profile to blend with fresh fruits and herbs; here I use strawberries and mint. The combination with The Bitter Gringo Savory Botanical Bitters is near perfection. Notes of fennel and celery help celebrate this aromatic, herbaceous, and refreshing libation. This well-balanced cocktail has an aperitif motive but can be enjoyed anytime. Next time you are entertaining, try shaking a few of these for your guests.

tools

Ingredients: (Serves 1)

  • 2 dashes Bitter Gringo Savory Bitters
  • 2 Fresh strawberries
  • 4 Fresh mint leaves
  • ½ oz Simple syrup
  • ½ oz Lemon juice
  • 1 oz St. George Pear Brandy
  • 3 oz Dry sparkling wine

DIRECTIONS:

Muddle strawberries and mint leaves in a cocktail shaker, then add the bitters, syrup, lemon, brandy, and ice. Shake well until very cold.

Add a touch of the sparkling wine to the champagne flute glass and then double strain the cocktail slowly into the glass. Finish by topping with the remaining sparkling wine.

Garnish with a strawberry and a fresh mint top.
